Allied Record Exchange carries a wide range of new and used records with lots of rare items. How would you describe the shop's taste?

Our tastes are definitely eclectic. We want people to be able to find things here that they might not find at another shop.

Your rock section is the largest, and your jazz currently leans avant-garde and free jazz. How did that jazz focus develop?

We are all pretty big jazz fans so the focus definitely came from there. Once we established that we had a decent jazz selection I think people were more inclined to sell us their jazz collections, as we would appreciate it beyond simply its monetary value.

You carry regional titles and distribute for local bands. How important is supporting the local scene to you?

Supporting the local music environment is important. Everyone working together gets more done than treading off alone, it's almost a responsibility to highlight local talent.

Being in Oregon, Ohio — right by Toledo — who comes through your door?

Everyone.

When someone wants to sell records, what's the best way to start — and what makes a collection an easy yes?

The best way to start is to bring in a small selection so we can get a feel for the condition and what kind of titles we'll be seeing. When I see records I am not familiar with it definitely piques my interest.

What's a find that stuck with you?

Too many to choose one.

Definitely the new arrivals. Never know what might have just rolled it.
