Interview with Vinyl Revival

Lansdowne is one of those Delaware County towns with a historic main street and a real community pulse. How does Vinyl Revival fit in?

Vinyl Revival is very community minded. We proudly advertise/co-promote/partner with local music-related organizations including the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra, Lansdowne Folk Club, Jamey’s House of Music, the Lansdowne Theater, etc. We also support many local school fundraisers, library events, etc.

Who comes through — locals, West Philly diggers taking the trolley out, families?

We really are a destination business. Not only do we have a strong local clientele, but we also have customers who come from all over the Tri-State area. We even get out-of-towners who Google to find record stores near them who stop in to dig when they are in the area.

What do your regulars hunt for most — and what sells in Delco that might surprise people?

Regulars hunt most for classic rock – maybe a particular album from a favorite band that they need to add to their collection.

Which section has been quietly strong lately?

R & B has been strong lately, especially classic R & B.

If someone wants to sell records, what's the best first step — and what makes a collection an easy yes?

We buy by appointment. First step to selling your records is to call us and let us know what you have and the condition of the records. If we need what you have, the next step is to set up an appointment for us to look at the records. We are always on the lookout for punk and metal as we don’t get too many folks selling those albums, but we almost always need Zeppelin, Hendrix, Floyd. So those would be an easy yes as long as they are in good condition.

What condition problems do sellers most often underestimate?

Damage to jackets – water, mold, split, or no jackets at all. When we buy, we look for both clean vinyl and jacket.

First visit to Vinyl Revival — what should someone check first?

Record Store Day releases – we may have that title you’ve been looking for!
