How did The Groove begin?

We purchased the building while both still working on our careers. We would go to antique sales on the weekends we had off together and also collected records. We never stopped listening to vinyl. We amassed so many records in a few years that we took a leap of faith and opened a record store.

What should visitors explore in Montague?

All year long, there is music everywhere between the 2 towns. In the summer, there are outdoor venues including free concerts. Wonderful places to eat. A playhouse. And of course the two lakes!

Who are your regulars?

We don't stock differently for any time of year. We have the regular townspeople and regular summer people. We are so lucky to have the best customers!

What genres are you seeking?

We are currently looking for classic rock, blues, alternative.

What records do customers ask for?

We sell a lot of Fleetwood Mac. Customers often ask for Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, John Prine.

How do customers usually pay?

We take cash, credit and still have several who prefer to pay by check. Of course, we prefer cash due to the fact that the fees for credit card processing are ever rising.

Where can visitors find local music?

The Book Nook features many local musical artists. The Arts Council of White Lake puts on great outdoor concerts. Stix Bar in Ludington has gotten some great bands also!
