Small Friend Records & Books

Small Friend Records & Books is a basement shop on Lombardy Street in Richmond's Fan neighborhood, located at the corner of Main Street. The store carries vinyl records, 45s, CDs, cassettes, books, and merchandise across genres including punk, hardcore, garage, jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop, metal, rock, experimental, and classical. They buy CDs and cassettes in trade-ins and accept books and records for cash or store credit Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Larger collections may require a drop-off.

The bookstore focuses on fiction by LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors, music books, graphic novels, philosophy, occult titles, leftist theory, and art books. The record selection emphasizes recent releases, soul, funk, hip-hop, blues, jazz, and international music. Small Friend also operates as a label and mail-order business, offering special orders of in-print titles and bulk discounts on book orders of five or more copies. Items must be in excellent condition with no damage, warping, or excessive wear.
