How did Gigantic Records come together on Westport Road?

I was a super fan of the former version of my store - Records With Merritt, and live a half block from the store. Ann & Marion were retiring at the end of 2024, and they had a buyer lined up. Throughout January 2025, I would walk by the store, and still see it virtually untouched. I worked a corporate job for many years, and my department got downsized, and I suddenly had to find a new job. I had a decent severance package, and decided to call Ann & Marion to see what was happening with the store. We ended up working out an agreeable deal, hence Gigantic Records was born. I'm not competing with other stores in KC, but carving out my own niche to expand the amazing offerings we have which are amazing.

What makes Gigantic different in Kansas City's record scene?

I specialize in new releases weekly, and try to pay particular attention to off the beaten path artists that you may not find in other stores.

Do you buy used records from sellers?

I don't buy used records.

What would you tell someone opening a record store in a city with strong competition?

Stock your store with music you like, it is always easier to sell. Listen to your customers, pay attention to bands they mention that you aren't familiar with (my customers are my algorithm).
