Record store: Color Sound Oblivion

Thanks so much for getting in touch with us! We are a fairly small store and we specialize in goth, industrial, post-punk, new wave, no wave, noise, experimental music, and some metal. We really love the artists on the Wax Trax!, Dais, and Reconstriction labels. We have vinyl, CDs, tapes, and a small number of books. About half of our vinyl and CDs are in our specialty areas and then we have a vinyl bin specializing in Jazz & Blues, a bin devoted to Exotica & Lounge, a bin devoted to soundtracks, and then the remainder of the music we have is in the classic rock and pop section with most of it from the 60s/70s/80s. Most of the vinyl and CDs and tapes we carry are used but about 15% or so is new vinyl. We also have a section of Halloween/Christmas music, $1-$2 records (well-loved vinyl) and free stuff.

We try to have a good variety of music for a lot of tastes given our limited space so hopefully there will be something that is worth your while!

Our used vinyl ranges mostly from $7 to $20 depending on their condition and our cost. New vinyl releases are usually in the $20-$30 range. Our hours are Wed/Thurs 5pm - 9pm, Fri 5pm - 10pm, Sat 12pm - 8pm and Sun 12pm - 6pm. We usually only close for big holidays.

If you're traveling such a long distance and you are particularly interested in jazz, we would recommend before or after you visit us to see Bob at Enterprise Records in Portland. He typically carries a good amount of jazz and his shop is close to a few other stores that may be fruitful for you: Electric Buddhas, Moody Lords (they usually lean toward the classic rock and folk), and Strange Maine (they have pop/rock, punk, and noise/experimental music). Most of those shops are open during daytime business hours and close by 5 or 6pm. Biddeford also has a Bull Moose location near exit 32 that does carry some vinyl, though they lean toward new releases and more current pop and indie music.

If you have some particular artists in mind, I'd be happy to let you know if we have any on hand. Thanks again for reaching out! We look forward to seeing you. :)
