Modesto’s Only Locally-Owned Record Store

We are a newer, smaller store, but we have a very good selection! We offer a mix of new and used rock, a lot of new hip-hop, pop, R&B, some jazz, and even country. There’s also a local artist section. As Modesto's only local record store, we're the go-to place for new and used records, catering to everyone’s music tastes and carrying titles you won’t find at typical stores like Target or Walmart. We aim to expose people to new music on vinyl, building relationships as we talk about music when they visit. It’s a unique vibe and proves that shopping in-person at a small business is an experience like no other.

New and Used Records: A Specially Curated Selection

There aren’t too many places around here to get new vinyl, aside from Target or Walmart, which only carry certain artists and albums. At Broken Records, we’re proud to carry hip-hop artists like MF Doom and offer rarer albums that you can only find here in town. Our rock and metal sections are top sellers too—customers love finding original copies of their favorite albums, and we try to keep those stocked up. We also stock less common albums from bands that people really appreciate, letting them explore deeper into the artists’ discographies. It's all about avoiding the endless stacks of mainstream albums like Dark Side of the Moon or Abbey Road and instead digging into something unique.

Supporting Local Artists and Hosting Events

We love supporting local artists in Modesto! Broken Records has a dedicated local artist section where musicians can drop off their vinyl and CDs for purchase, and we promote their work on our Instagram page. We also host events, like concerts and meet-and-greets with artists, with a few already under our belt. It’s our way of giving back to the community and making sure local talent shines.

More Than Just Vinyl: CDs, Cassettes, and Collectibles

In addition to vinyl, Broken Records offers a selection of CDs, cassettes, and music-related collectibles. There’s still a demand for CDs, and many people are starting to collect cassettes again. We make sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy in our collection!

Online Ordering with an Emphasis on the In-Store Experience

To make things convenient, we’ve launched Broken Records online site where people can buy records if they’re short on time. However, vinyl lovers often prefer the in-store experience, where they can browse and stumble upon albums naturally. Digging through the collection is a special part of vinyl collecting, and we’re excited to keep that experience alive.
