It’s just an overall aesthetic of things that please my eye or things that I find “beautiful and interesting.”

Do people come in for the vintage side and discover the records, or the other way around?

It’s actually both for sure. A lot of people come in just for the records and then discover there’s lots more to look at… I especially get a lot of guys that come in for records and then girlfriends or wives that are pleasantly relieved there’s more to look at than just records.

How does the local college-town energy show up in what sells?

Doesn’t really show up a majority of my business is families and tourist and some college students and mostly it’s just people buying what they love whether they’re 70 or 20.

What genres feel right at Little Horse — what belongs on the shelf next to the books and the ceramics?

Although classic rock sells the best I would prefer jazz to be the feature genre.

What's a record that surprised you by finding its person immediately?

Can’t really say that happens about once every couple weeks or someone just stumbles in and says oh my God I’ve been looking through this for a long time.

If someone wants to sell records or vintage pieces, what's the best way to start — and what makes something an easy yes?

Best way to start is to call up vintage shops or record shops that are selling items and literally bring them in and just go from there.

Does condition work differently for you than for a pure record shop, given the vintage context?

No condition is still the same both specialty record stores and vintage stores sell mostly to the same customers. It’s just the collectors that you have to deal with who are much more critical on grading.

First visit — what should someone take time to notice beyond the bins?

Native American jewelry and rugs.
