World Records

World Records has served Bakersfield since 1982, operating as an independent record store for over four decades. Located at 2815 F Street, the shop stocks used vinyl, new vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, books, merchandise, and turntables with a focus on soul music. The store hosts events and serves coffee, creating a welcoming space for music fans. Hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

Founded by two childhood friends at age 22 and 23, World Records built its reputation on being well-stocked, well-organized, and staffed by people who genuinely care about customers' musical interests. The store pioneered headphone listening stations in the early 1990s so customers could preview purchases before buying. Throughout its history, World Records has prioritized supporting artists and music fans over commercial concerns, staging concerts without ticketing service charges or corporate sponsors.
