Miyagi Records

Miyagi Records in Chicago specializes in obscure and classic vinyl across soul, funk, jazz, Latin, rock, blues, world music, new wave, industrial, hip-hop, disco, and house on LP, 12-inch, and 45rpm formats. The shop also hosts a pop-up cafe, shared workspace, and cultural events. Named after Japanese kanji characters meaning shrine and fortress, the store draws inspiration from Tokyo's hyper-curated vinyl shops and aims to be your secret spot.

Founded in late 2019 and expanded during the pandemic, Miyagi Records is BIPOC-owned and committed to serving the Southside community with fair prices and quality service. The store acknowledges that most music it sells was created by musicians of color. As part of Rebuild Foundation's Creative Entrepreneurship program and the Arts Block, Miyagi Records honors the neighborhood's rich musical legacy.
